roots community church

Surrounded by the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges, Seattle is an organic, natural city where people understand and appreciate the outdoors. The name for Roots Community Church came out of this value the locals hold, but with a deeper meaning and purpose. Throughout Scripture the image of a tree is seen as an example of growth, life, and a solid foundation. This is the hope of Roots Community: that the lost would come from their endless search for significance to being firmly rooted and thriving in a new life with Christ. Roots Community desires to Equip people to walk in obedience with Christ, lead them to Encounter Christ by creating an atmosphere of worship, and challenge them to Engage their culture through evangelism, missions, and service.

Roosevelt Way is an influential neighborhood where sadly only 2-4% know Christ. Often called the “Metaphysical Belt of Seattle,” it is the area most widely known for all types of New Age stores, meditation centers, and Eastern religions. Additionally, with an average income of over 100k, many in this neighborhood are consumed by wealth and intellectual prowess. Coupled with the fact that there are no solid evangelical churches in the area, we see Roosevelt Way as a strategic place to reach the lost. Population trends show the average age is 34, and that the amount of young families in this area is growing. With three universities within four miles, this is also a prime location to reach and mobilize college students for the cause of Christ.

Before church planting Dave spent three years on staff with the Baptist Student Union at the University of Oklahoma. He then moved to South East Asia for several years where he helped plant a church of university students through the International Mission Board. In 2011 Dave moved to Ft. Worth, Texas where he started a college & 20’s ministry in a local church, worked as a full-time recruitment coordinator for Southwestern Seminary, and graduated with his Masters of Divinity. Before marrying Dave, Mary was a news reporter in Northwest Arkansas and also worked for a successful marketing firm.

Dave and Mary have a heart to see people come to know Christ and then be trained to become multiplying disciples. They are both excited to use the experiences God has given them to reach Seattle and specifically the Roosevelt and Ravenna neighborhoods for Christ. They firmly believe God has called them to plant their lives in Seattle, WA and begin a multiplying church planting movement.
